Visiting Canby and the Swan Island Dahlia Farms is a free thing to do in Oregon that should be on everyone’s bucket list!!!! Bonus The Secret Garden Growers and Canby Ferry

Swan Island Dahlia Farm

Summer in Oregon just isn’t complete without a trip to Swan Island Dahlia Farm in Canby Oregon. It is open August and September. The dahlia farm is gorgeous and free to visit! You can even bring your dogs! My dogs did not get to enjoy today’s adventure as there are too many people and dogs for them.

the Swan Island Dahlia Farm is a popular thing to do in Oregon -it is outside and fairly easy to maintain social distancing- which is important during the COVID-19 era.

Here my Mom is enjoying our picnic with the beautiful Dahlias in the background at Swan Island Dahlia Farm

The Dahlia Farm is a wonderful place for a picnic. You can sit enjoying your meal while basking in the beauty of the Dahlias. If Dahlias are not one of your favorite flowers-I bet they quickly become one by the end of your visit. They are truly stunning!

Although it is entirely free to visit. You may want to bring your wallet. They have a fantastic Gift shop which would be a great place to do some early Christmas Shopping. Or you may want to buy a bouquet of Dahlias to bring home. Regardless you can have a fantastic time without spending a dime.

The swan Island Dahlia Gift Shop is not to be missed

After browsing the many fields of Dahlias, you may be inspired to plant some Dahlias in your garden at home. You can order Dahlia tubers at the Swan Island Dahlia farm or on their website.

During non COVID-19 times they have Events at the Dahlia Farm . You can enjoy the Canby Dahlia Run and the Dahlia Festival. Both of which were cancelled in 2020.

One thing to be careful not to miss- is the tester garden. They have one of each variety of Dahlia beautifully displayed. I have been here many times and accidentally had missed this the best part on my previous visits. It is behind the black fence near the picnic tables. 😀

The Swan Island Dahlia Farm should be on everyone‘s bucket to visit if you love flowers.

The Secret Garden Growers

If you are interested in continuing your adventure – I do recommend a trip to the The Secret Garden Growers. It is 15 minute drive from Swan Island Dahlia Farm. You will enjoy the beautiful country drive. The Secret Garden Growers is open Thursday -Saturday April-October and by appointment 10 am-5pm.

I loved the witch crossing sign in the driveway of the Secret Garden Growers in Canby Oregon

The Secret Garden Growers is a 8 acres nursery that you can stroll along the paths and enjoy it’s beauty. They have chairs at convenient locations for you to just relax and enjoy the beauty or to take a break from your shopping.

This is me and Spanky one of the adorable dogs at the Secret Garden Growers

It is a great little nursery to visit if you are looking for unique plants . You will feel like you are in on a local secret. But be fore warned- they do have 3 adorable dogs that will greet you at the gate.

Canby Ferry

If you want to add to your adventure- I do recommend taking the Canby Ferry which is only a 6 minute drive to Swan Island Dahlia Farm. It cost $5 per car (cash only) you must have exact change or a Ferry punch card. For more information: Canby Ferry.

The North Canby Ferry

The ferry does not take long- it is a unique experience and I was glad we took the scenic route to add to the fun. As we drove from the Ferry to Swan Island Dahlia farm we passed a Ostrich and Emu farm adding to the adventure. A fun filled day for $5 and memories for a lifetime- it doesn’t get better than that!

Let me know if you have done or do this adventure. I would love to hear about your experience.
